    Title: LED Backlight Driving System for LCD Panel with Color Sequential Display and Area Control
    色序法與區域控制液晶面板之發光二極體背光燈驅動系統

    Abstract: In this paper, a light emitting diode (LED) backlight driving
    system for liquid crystal display (LCD) panel with color
    sequential display (CSD) and area control is proposed. Due to
    improvement on luminous efficacy, fast response and wide color
    gamut, LED has gradually substituted for cold cathode fluorescent
    lamp as backlight. The proposed driving system adopts CSD to
    improve light utilization efficiency and reduce power
    consumption by removing color filter. In addition, power
    consumption can be further reduced and dark-bright contrast ratio
    can be improved by adopting area control. In the proposed
    system, a single-stage converter is adopted to drive the LED
    backlight, reducing the volume and cost. Moreover, a control IC is
    proposed to achieve multi-string LED current regulation and area
    control. The proposed driving system for 22-inch LCD panels has
    been built, from which experimental measurements have verified
    its feasibility.
    本文是針對色序法與區域控制液晶面板之發光二極體
    (Light Emitting Diode: LED)背光燈驅動系統所做的研究與探
    討。近年來,由於LED 之發光效率提升,且其具有反應速度
    快與色彩範圍廣等優點,因此逐漸取代冷陰極管,成為新一代
    背光燈源。本文所提之驅動系統採用色序法顯示技術,其所搭
    配之面板不需彩色濾光片,故可改善光利用率並降低背光燈之
    功率。此外,採用區域控制顯示技術分區調整背光燈之亮度,
    可進一步降低背光燈之功率,並大幅提升顯示器之亮暗對比
    率。在本文所提出之驅動系統中,採用單級高功因轉換器驅動
    LED 背光燈,以降低系統體積與成本,並提出LED 調光與穩
    流控制IC,以達到分區調光、與穩定多串LED 驅動電流等功
    能。文中依據電路分析與設計,以及相關實務考量,製作一個
    22 吋色序法與區域控制LED 背光燈驅動系統,並藉由硬體量
    測結果驗證其效能與可行性。
