    Abstract: [a1]This research employs the meta-heuristic method of discrete particle swarm
    optimization (PSO) to an application of vehicle routing problems (VRP).The procedure
    simulates the decision-making processes of swarm and is similar to other adaptive learning
    and artificial intelligence techniques such as ant colony optimization tabu search, simulated
    annealing and genetic algorithms. Modifications are made to the PSO algorithm used to
    solve the application of garbage collection problem in an environmental protection
    company which needs the search of the multiple routes of the VRP. The objective is
    minimizing the total routing path and without exceeding the capacity constraints of each
    vehicle. Experimentation results show that the algorithm is successful in finding solutions
    and the use of particle swarm is found to provide a comparatively competitive solution
    technique.
