    Abstract: This study is on programming a user-friendlycode to calculate suitable insulation thickness and relativeheat transfer characteristics for an insulated hot/coldrectangular duct involving one to three different insulationlayers. Users simply input the required data, the inner fluidand the ambient conditions of the insulated duct, the sizes ofduct, the properties of insulation materials under thespecified conditions (uncondensed surface for the cold ductor maximum safe surface temperature for the hot duct), stepby step, then the optimum insulation thickness, reliable heattransfer rate, minimum surface temperature of a coldduct/maximum surface temperature of a hot duct andinsulation effect can be easily computed. Comparing with theinaccurate insulated thickness and relative unreliable heattransfer characteristics calculated from the PTR model, theemployment of this code can greatly enhance the quality andstability of a system design involving insulated rectangularducts.
