    Abstract: 視訊會議系統是架構在需要同時傳遞視訊及聲音的技術基礎上,視訊會議(video conference)在目前有線寬頻的網路世界中是很普遍存在的,隨著無線行動寬頻(如3G、WiMAX等)的普及,行動視訊會議的需求會隨著增加。因此,如何在異質網路(heterogeneous networks)的世界中達到無所不在的視訊會議的技術研發,成為一種新的視訊會議趨勢。目前的視訊會議架構上分成主從(client/server)以及點對點(peer-to-peer)兩種架構,不管是那一種架構所需要考量的技術包括聲音及影像的編解碼(coder-decoder, CODEC)、網路串流(network streaming)、以及NAT Traversal 等,此外亦要考量硬體架構的負載能力,才能讓視訊會議的聲音及影像能平緩的傳送及接收。
    本產學計劃主要開發主從架構(Client/Server)的平緩視訊傳輸及接取技術,利用最先進的Google 的VP8 視訊編解碼技術及RTP 串流技術,透過profile 來調整視訊的畫面,並運用額外的控制頻道(control channel)來偵測視訊的網路傳輸能力,除了能夠達到支援多種平台的使用之外,尚能夠達成各種平台之間的視訊移轉,意即在不中斷視訊會議的情況下,將使用者的視訊會議畫面從一個裝置移轉到另一個裝置。
    Videoconferencing system is based on technology of transmitting video and audio streams synchronously at different sites together for a meeting and is widely used in wired broadband network. With the great development of wireless mobile network (such as 3G, WiMAX, etc), mobile video conference would be increased in demand, therefore, how to achieve a world of heterogeneous networks with ubiquitous video conference has become a new trend in videoconferencing technology research and development. The current videoconferencing architecture is divided into client/server and peerto-peer. In either architecture, the technologies would be used including coder and decoder of video and audio, network streaming, NAT traversal, and etc. In order to smoothly play video and audio streams, hardware capabilities also have to be considered in deep.
    The purpose of this plan is to develop a client / server architecture of videoconferencing technology to smoothly transmit and receive data with Google VP8 codec. By adding on adaptive profile (resolution, frame rate) technology in Google VP8 and using additional control channel to detect the network video transmission capabilities, videoconferencing system can be supported in cross-platform, and also can be transferred between different devices, which means without terminating the video conference, same video frames will be shifted from a device to another.
