    Abstract: A new solar drying system was designed and
    fabricated at Department of Mechanical
    Engineering, Kun Shan University, Taiwan –
    R.O.C in order to improve solar drying
    performance and reduce disadvantages coming
    from normal structures. The system, consisting of a collector embedded chamber and a movable – rotatable reflector which could automatically follow and reflect the solar light to the chamber without the need of sensors, was designed for drying farm products. Performance characteristics of the new solar drying system showed a high ability with enough temperature for drying purpose.Thermal performance of the system was also compared with that of a natural flow type solar drying system for unload operation mode only in the same working conditions. Experimental results showed that collection efficiency of the novel solar
    drying design was 39.61% (while that of natural flow type solar drying system was 10.08% only).Inside–chamber air temperature of the new dryer achieved more than 50oC for six and a half hours(while only three and a half hours for the natural flow type solar dryer). The new structure also helped to solve several disadvantages of the natural
    flow type solar drying system, e.g. heat loss,working period, troubles caused by pollutants in air.
